A timber frame tiny house... on wheels

The Frame

I now have a trailer frame. It is a bit rusty but not bad. The problem is that I thought it would be 28ft long as that was the size of the Layton trailer. But it is only 25 ft. I was going to canteliver the last two feet to fit into my design but now I will have to come up with a new plan.

Deconstruction

Now begins the process of deconstructing the Layton Trailer. We had a dumpster for another demo job at the house and put anything we couldn't recycle or reuse into it. Unfortunately the old trailer didn't have much that was useful.

The trailer frame

I started looking around for a trailer frame that was 30 feet long. It became apparent that a new one would be price prohibitive, so I started looking on craigslist. I became obsessed. Even there everything that fit our requirements was over 3k. We changed our strategy and started looking for used campers. It didn't take long to find one that we thought would work.

Welcome to minimalmansion.com

This is a site to document the building of a small house loosely based on the designs of Jay Shafer's Tumbleweed Tiny Houses. A little over a year ago I learned about Jay's houses. I thought they were great. Small, efficient, and mobile. Everything a poor non-profit employee was looking for. I loved Jay's designs but didn't have the money to buy the lock and key version.
